Five theories orbiting social media which every Gen Z should beware

Our generation is ruled by social media. A trend, a reel, a meme has the power to boost any new song, or artist or a show in a matter of mere minutes. Similarly, there are certain theories that have been doing rounds on social media which every person should be cautious about.

  • Orange Peel Theory

This theory became famous when a tik-toker poster a video of her asking her boyfriend to peel oranges for her, where he declines the same. Since, that video, there have been several social media tweets relaying their experiences with their significant others when asked to peel an orange. Fundamentally, this theory is to test the lengths your partner will go for you. If your partner is willing to peel the orange for you, consider yourself lucky as per the theory enthusiasts.

However, if you are settling for a partner who would peel an orange for you, your standards are accustomed to the bare minimum. It is time to increase your standards people.

  • Red Nail Theory

Another social media theory, that is rooted in the ideas of patriarchy. According to this theory, if a woman has long red nails, she is more likely to attract the attention of the other sex. Some individuals have tested the theory, with mixed results. While there is nothing wrong in enhancing your appearance, the same shall be done because you feel the need to ladies, not for some random man.

The red nail theory is archaic and is based on the ancient evidence of red nails in the yesteryears. If a man is attracted to you based on your red nails, use that acetone, and get a better man.

  • Olive Theory

This theory is one of the most popular social media theories, and was first popularized in the famous sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother https://how-i-met-your-mother.fandom.com/wiki/Olive_Theory Though the theory relies on olives, it can be applied to any food item. According to this theory, two individuals are compatible if one of them likes ‘olives and the other does not, to balance out the relationship. The one who liked olives can eat the olives for the other. While this theory works on a basic level, basing the entire relationship on food likes and dislikes will cause a food fight in the future.

  • Burnt Toast Theory

Burnt Toast Theory essentially means that if you burn your toast for before leaving the house, you should toast another bread. It is basically a sign for you to delay your day, as the burnt toast (or any other event, such as sleeping in) is a sign for some adverse event which can be avoided by being late. This theory has been receiving a lot of support online. One X user shared her story about how she slept in and forgot to attend an event which was later hijacked by two shooters.

The burnt toast theory, is more of a belief and the need to eat than a theory. But who am I to question your belief, so burnt toast theory can still be relevant and certainly a step up from other theories.

  • Hair Theory

Hair theory is the most practical theory on the list and my personal favorite. Hair theory is based on the idea that a haircut can change how you look and perceive yourself. Well, this certainly is the truth, a haircut can change your life and outlook and I certainly support this. Hair theory is the most hinged theory on social media, and certainly not sexist or rooted in patriarchy.

While these theories are a great way to pass your time and conjure ideas for social media, do not let them rule your life and be driven by red nails, orange peeling, or sharing olives.
